Liver transplantation is the result of the hard work of many a people involved in medicine: scientists, surgeons, technicians, immunologists.
The big adventure began in the fifties with experiments on dogs. In the early sixties first clinical attempts were done but first successes came later.
Improvements in surgery, perfusion solutions, extracorporeal circulation are milestones in the history of liver transplantation.
So what once was only a dream, today is a reality with its indications and contraindications.
